The Spark is thrilled to announce Hearth Day’s final lineup of sessions and events. All workshops are free, including materials provided. Participation is first come, first serve.

Date + Location: Saturday, April 22 2023, Henry Hudson Riverfront Park

Toolshed showcases their new solar trailer, and joins SunCommon in providing an introductory workshop on the basics of solar power and how community members can install their own solar panels.

The Hudson Sloop Club will guide participants on an excursion to discovering nature and solar photographic processes. After foraging for plant or found material on a short walk to Railroad Point, participants are instructed in how to build a cyanotype print. No prior experience is necessary and all material will be provided.

Grow Black Hudson provides a step-by-step breakdown of planting different seeds to seedlings that includes when and where to plant, watering and care, harvest time and practices, and how to use them in food and medicine. All materials will be provided including soil, seeds, containers, labelling materials, water, and takeaway notes for aftercare. The workshop will be interspersed with discussion, so come prepared with questions! All interest and experience welcome.

  • 2:15pm-3pm Shiitake Mushroom Workshop hosted by Ryan Surrano and Annabel Roberts-Mcmichael of Wally Farms.

The Wally Farms forestry team shares the basics on mushroom growing; from site selection to harvesting. After an inoculation demo, participants who sign up for the workshop will take home their own fruitful log. Limited spots are available, but come check out the Wally Farms booth for fruiting logs to take home.

Community Herbalist, Lauren Giambrone of Good Fight Herb Co. will share the beneficial and accessible aspects of vinegar-based medicines, before guiding participants through the process of making their own infusions with raw apple cider vinegar.
