The Spark of Hudson Building: Igniting the Future from Our New Headquarters This Spring!

We are excited to announce that The Spark of Hudson’s new headquarters at 502 Union Street is set to open its doors in May! The building will serve as a vibrant and dynamic hub for the community, underpinning Spark’s dedication to empowering individuals through education, collaboration, and innovation.

The building is intended to be a multifunctional space, accommodating a wide array of activities and programs — most of which we hope will come directly from community requests.  At the forefront of this dynamic space is the Circles Bagel Counter, founded and run by Chef Tepper. Circles will be a welcoming spot where community members can gather to enjoy artisanal bagels and a warm cup of coffee.

Beyond the Circles Bagel Counter, the building boasts a variety of features designed to serve the diverse needs of Hudson's residents. A library with a wood-burning fireplace offers a cozy retreat for readers and thinkers alike, while a fully-equipped demo kitchen provides a space for culinary exploration and learning. The rooftop terrace affords stunning views of the surrounding area, offering a perfect backdrop for events and gatherings.

Additionally, lodging for visiting artists and instructors ensures that The Spark of Hudson can host a range of educational and cultural programs, further enriching our community's vibrant landscape. Multiple gathering spaces throughout the building are designed to facilitate workshops, workforce development initiatives, and cultural events, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among participants.

Talking about the building’s purpose and goals, Elizabeth Dickey, our Operations Coordinator said, “We know that space is at a premium in Hudson. Just as folks are seeking affordable housing, they’re also looking for accessible places to gather, talk to each other, learn together. We want that to be the guiding principle behind all our programming at 502 Union.”

Joanie Tom, the architect behind this transformative project, brings her deep commitment to community-focused design to every corner of The Spark Building. Tom’s career has been dedicated to creating spaces that not only stand out for their aesthetic appeal but also promote interaction, learning, and accessibility. Her use of natural light, environmentally friendly materials, and designs that reflect the local culture and heritage make the building not just a place to visit, but a place to belong.

We are hoping for The Spark Building to bring together our local community, from individuals to non-profits, government entities to educational institutions —we aim to partner with and welcome everyone. This collective approach amplifies our impact, meeting the evolving needs of our residents and making The Spark Building a cornerstone for innovation and collaboration in Hudson.
